From what I heard at the yamaha dealership, they said thier 2 stroke quad (the banshee) will not be made next year, but 2 stroke dirt bikes will be. Don't hold me to this I have done no research on it. Not sure what other companies are doing, anyone know??????

Well they stopped making 2 stoke water vehicles because polution right (noise and enviromental)? It'd make sense to stop making them all together...just to make things fair for everyone Laughing anyway I miss my cr80. That thing was hell on wheels...took a little bit to get going but once it hit the right RPM that thing was insane.

I have had both. an Honda 250r (back when they were cool) it was an 85. close to the last year they made it .... but you ALWAYS had to go fast or foul plugs. I now have a T.R.X. 450R... don't let the name fool ya! it is a 4 stroke. BUT! I can chugg behind the kids and girlfriend (like a frickin TRACTOR) or.... stick some thumb into it and it is GONE! my type of riding has changed since the good ol days.... well I did a LOT of drugs back then so I do not remember much but if I were still into flying I think I would want the option of a 2 stroke. but I am sure much like cars we will still see some tricked out older ones in 10 years and say... man they just don't make em like that any more!

2 strokes will be back some day. Marketing is a bitch. You can't beat the horsepower they make with such little weight and diplacement. Manufacturers could invest into making a two stroke pass emission laws. Aprilia has done it (oil is injected into the crank and gas through an injector next to the spark plug). Your average garbage truck is a 2-stroke diesel, air cool, I believe. The maintenance on a 2-stroke is easier than the shim under bucket blues of new thumper with very short cylinder stroke, and even shorter valve train life-span.
I ride a KTM 300 and love it.
I'll stick with smelly 2-strokes as long as I can. I'll miss hearing and smelling those cylinders with holes!
LONG LIVE BEAN OIL!!!

You have to love the bottom end power a 4 stroke has though, for times when you need to drop a gear and get up and over something. You don't have to hammer the throttle to get into the power band to get over it.

True, but a bigger flywheel and/or bigger displacement (500) will do the trick. They are all good but I have a sweet tooth for 2-stokes as they rip with half the parts of a four stroke. I guess this nemonic says it all: KISS=keep it simple stupid.
As long as it has two wheels and you are enjoying yourself, ride on.

If only the 4.3 was two stroke, I might do the conversion.

KTM still offers 2 strokes. At least I hope so. 4-strokes are, I agree, nicer and smoother to ride. They just suck once your inteke Ti valve take a dump along with the valve seats or worse, the head. Unless the motor has a long stroke and easy adjusting valves. None of that shim under bucket crap. If you simply put few hours on your machine, it's fine. Now ride it like it's meant to be ridden for hours several times a week and you'll understand the hardship of newer 4-S maintenance. Nothing last foerever, not even an XR eventhough it's pretty close.

Now what, a 4 stroke stand up is next? It'll be heavier than shit. I know trials bike have 4-s motors, injected without a battery. But trials is all about sudden grunt. It'll be a sad day when stand ups have cams!

They make a 4 stroke stand up and its turbo charged. Its made by HYDRSPACE and it has 160hp it pretty badass. the only thing that sucks is a new one is about $13,000. f@ckin steep but from what i heard its worth it.

BUT SUPER JETS ARE WHERE ITS AT! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

That's it, I am officially sad, eventhough I wouldn't mind owning that stand up . Darn four stroke, they'll never smell as good as a good old fashion ringdingding motor.
